Serena Williams and Venus Williams are trailblazers in the tennis world. The Williams sisters, throughout the years, have caused havoc on the courts. While Serena, in the year 2022 announced her retirement from the sport, Venus is still going strong. Despite the two leading the charts, the G.O.A.T. debate among the two is one for the ages. However, putting a full stop to this, Serena Williams’ former coach released a statement on Twitter.
In his tweet, he described Venus Williams, the elder one among the sisters, to be the second-best in tennis while asserting a possible explanation for his said statement.
Former Serena Williams’ coach makes a huge claim about Venus Williams
Renowned tennis coach Rick Macci, who has mentored some of the greatest players in the sport, including Serena and Venus Williams, recently made a bold proclamation that sent ripples through the tennis community. Macci’s assertion? Venus Williams, despite abstaining from junior tournaments for a remarkable three years between 1991 and 1994, is deserving of the title “Second Best Player of All Time.”
NOT the PLAYBOOK the Developing a player. NO Junior Tournaments for 3 YEARS 1991 to 1994. Turn pro. Beat 57 in the world. Almost beat number 1 in the world. Become the Second best player of all time behind your roommate. Who by the way did not play Any junior Tournaments FOR 5…

“NOT the PLAYBOOK the Developing a player. NO Junior Tournaments for 3 YEARS 1991 to 1994. Turn pro. Beat 57 in the world. Almost beat number 1 in the world. Become the Second best player of all time behind your roommate. Who by the way did not play Any junior Tournaments FOR 5 YEARS from 1991 to 1996 turned pro became THE GOAT!” said Rick Macci in his tweet.
This declaration raises eyebrows, as it places Venus in an elite echelon, right behind her roommate and sister, Serena, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time. What makes this distinction even more remarkable is that Serena, too, took an unconventional route. She refrained from playing in junior tournaments for five years between 1991 and 1996, before turning pro and ascending to the status of the ‘Greatest of All Time’.
Thus, Macci’s comments compel fans to think about who among the two sisters is the real G.O.A.T in tennis. While some claim Serena to be the best, some assert that Venus is the best. But what do the stats suggest?
Who among the Williams sisters is the greatest of all time?
While this debate could rage on forever, let us look at some of the stats that the Williams sisters have achieved over the years. When it comes to grand slams, Serena Williams is way ahead of her sister Venus Williams who has set the bar high with 23 Grand Slams to her name. When it comes to the WTA titles, Serena has 73 WTA titles to her name. However, Venus doesn’t trail far behind, having clinched 49 WTA titles with 22 in doubles.
But if longevity comes into question, Venus most certainly leads the chart as she is currently an active player on the WTA tour while her younger sister, Serena Williams has already retired from tennis. Thus, the debate of the real G.O.A.T. could rage on for ages without a clear winner. Who among the two, according to you, is the real G.O.A.T.? Do let us know in the comments below!
