The Estonian player announced her retirement through an emotional Instagram post. It has garnered the likes of many players and official websites of the Grand Slams. Some players even shared her post to their stories, expressing their disappointment. Emma Raducanu was on the list of stars who empathized with Kontaveit.

The former US Open champion was one of the first names on the WTA circuit to empathize with Kontaveit’s situation. Having gone through three surgeries recently, Raducanu could understand the pain behind the Estonian star’s recent injury struggles. Kontaveit disclosed that she was diagnosed with lumbar disc degeneration in her back.

Raducanu could not express her emotions through words. So she chose to go with emoticons instead. She shared Kontaveit’s post to her story, tagged her, and reacted with ???.” The emoticons revealed the dismay she felt upon knowing the announcement and her love for the 79th seed in this time of need.

The 27-year-old felt grateful for all the lessons the sport has taught her. She also expressed her gratitude to fans who supported her throughout her career.

While some players bounce from injuries as soon as they are diagnosed, some carry the burden for life. The British former number one was once unstoppable. She won a Grand Slam when she was just a teenager. But the pressure took a toll on her, and she had to skip the French Open and Wimbledon 2023. The 20-year-old had to undergo two surgeries in three days.

Raducanu underwent surgeries on both hands and one of her ankles in less than two months’ time. There is a good chance that she might even miss the upcoming US Open. The Brit is still hanging in there, being active on social media and updating her fans.
