The Williams sisters revolutionized women’s tennis. However, they both had to find a way around a sport where they both did not fit into the “exact” picture. Serena Williams feels that  she had to go through it more because of her body. At one point, she confessed that Venus Williams had more leverage as compared to her because she was conventionally fitting into the picture.

Serena has also accepted that for a very long time, she was very conscious of how she looked and tried to fit into the norm too. However, with time, she came to realize her own beauty and motivated so many women.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion had her ups and downs, not just with her career but also with the way she looked. She pointed out how a certain body type was glorified while she was growing up. She pointed it out by giving an example of her sister Venus Williams, who fit into that picture. Serena said, “When I was growing up, what was celebrated was different.” She said, “Venus looked more like what is really acceptable: she has incredibly long legs, and she’s really, really thin.”

The legendary tennis player noted, “I didn’t see people on TV that looked like me, who were thick. There wasn’t a positive body image. It was a different age.”

However, things changed for Serena too. She became an inspiration to millions of women around the world. She helped them embrace the way they looked and feel comfortable in their skin.

Being on the court or on the red carpet, embracing her vibrant and glorious aura, is not the only thing that Serena Williams did to motivate women around the world. She is a business tycoon, and she took that opportunity to send out a message in a more tangible manner. While launching her clothing line, the player inculcated plus sizes too.
