Did Iga Swiatek make the right call by parting ways with her coach after recent struggles?

Iga Swiatek is having the hardest time of her career. After her locker room disappointment went viral at the 2024 US Open, the fraternity could see her frustration regarding her form. Confirming that the decision was mutual, Swiatek wrote on her Instagram, “After 3 years of the greatest achievements in my career, together with my coach Tomasz Wiktorowski we decided to part way. I want to start with a big thank you and appreciating our work together.”

I was really disappointed with her performance at Wimbledon and the US Open, where she played one-dimensionally and couldn’t adjust her tactics. She was committed but helpless. There is definitely room for improvement in her game,” Schett said in an interview with a Polish media publication. The WTA number one ended her 2024 Wimbledon run after Yulia Putintseva defeated her in the third round.

In the American Slam, she visibly struggled with her form and made a disappointing exit in the quarterfinals. Schett believed after three seasons with the same coach, Swiatek needed a change and it was reflected in her recent Grand Slam performances. While Schett backed Swiatek’s decision, she felt the player needed more improvisation despite her number one rank. “Iga is number one in the world, but she still needs to develop her game on grass and hard courts. And let’s be honest, that hasn’t happened in the last year or two. She’s looking for something new, a fresh perspective because at this level, every detail matters,” she said.
