Martina Navratilova is a tennis legend, and she has inspired an entire generation of tennis players. Aside from her profession, she has also been a figure who fought for the recognition of the LGBTQ and fair treatment of women in sports. Her ways of being an inspirational figure do not end here, as she is also a cancer survivor and an inspired member of Real Housewives of Miami in their battle with the disease.
Navratilova is often featured in ROHM as her wife, Julia Lemigova, former Miss USSR, is a big part of the show and takes part in all the drama as well. But she also had a sweet moment as another member consoled her during Navratilova’s battle with cancer.

Martina Navratilova helps ROHM members brave through cancer
Martina Navratilova received her first cancer diagnosis in January 2010, which turned out to be stage 0 breast cancer. She fought hard to make sure she emerged triumphant. Unfortunately, the disease would be back for another round. Earlier in 2023, Navratilova revealed that she was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer and stage 1 throat cancer. It became a daunting time for her and her wife, but they were able to overcome it once again.

Her time battling the illness did not go to waste. In a recent interview with Bravo TV, Guerdy Abraira talked about her journey of finding out about her cancer diagnosis and battling with it. She also revealed the support provided by the 18-time grand slam champion.
“The first thing that she said to me is ‘Guerdy, you know what? Be selfish.’ And I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I don’t know how to do that, and I’ve learned how to do it very well.” Smiling, she said, “Guerdy’s being selfish!”.
When asked later about her progress with the battle, Abraira said, “I’m doing great, thank God. I’m counting the blessings and not the setbacks.”

Similar to Navratilova, Guerdy also received all the support she could need. The stress faced by Julia Lemigova, Navratilova’s wife, is seldom talked about. But she also had the support she needed to stand tall and brave for her wife.

When Navratilova’s cancer diagnosis was announced, Lemigova found herself calling upon all of her mental resources to stay strong for her wife. But behind the scenes, even Lemigova found it hard to cope. The former Miss USSR was not completely alone, though. To help her be brave and stand for her wife, she had Dr Nicole Martin, who is a certified anesthesiologist and a member of the show as well.

Martin held her hand while Navratilova was in the hospital for her treatment and helped Lemigova relieve some stress by crying to her heart’s content. The wife and wife duo eventually overcame the daunting diagnosis and had a lot of good times to look forward to going forward.
