X or Bluesky? Well, this has been a major debate in the last few weeks! The decentralized social network which was originally created as a research initiative in 2019 by then-Twitter CEO, Jack Dorsey has added at least 1 million users in the last few days. Moreover, in October this year, Bluesky added 500,000 users in a day after Elon Musk blunted X’s “block” feature. Many of the users, including some celebrities have now started to think about a switch from X and that list includes tennis legends like Pam Shriver and Serena Williams’ former coach, Rennae Stubbs.
What did they say on this topic recently? Well, the 62-year-old American former pro tennis player, Pam Shriver recently came up with an interesting tweet. In her tweet, she asked her fans, “Preparing to leave X and want some feedback to what’s best next steps for tennis peeps?” Then in the comment section, we saw some of the fans coming up with a reply naming, Bluesky as the perfect replacement. Is she really going to make that switch? We don’t know, however, another tennis legend, and Serena Williams’ ex-coach Rennae Stubbs also gave a hint on her stand in this debate.
Rennae Stubbs who’s mostly known for taking down the critics on X, recently shared a tweet stating, “But while i am still on the toxic site. I would love to spread some joy. I just watched ‘my old a–‘ on @PrimeVideo and it was so cute!!🥰 @maisystella was brilliant & as always so was Aubrey Plaza and the entire cast! Fantastic movie. About learning the lessons of love & life.” Why is she calling it a toxic site, though? Well, she backed her statement with a follow-up tweet that claimed, “Also interestingly i am losing followers! I hope that’s a sign of people bailing on this toxic site.”

She shared two screenshots depicting how there is a significant drop in her followers in her X account. Stubbs is known for her bold stands on her social media accounts. She is often seen showing support to the players and defending them from the critics. For example, in 2022, she was seen slamming Emma Raducanu’s critics on social media. Then a year later she was seen defending Iga Swiatek from a critic after the Polish lost her match against Jessica Pegula at the United Cup.

Even this year, Serena Williams’ former coach was seen defending Emma Navarro and Jessica Pegula on X by saying, “So stop with the narratives out there that because they’re wealthy, they got there. That’s nonsense and i won’t hear it!” X users will surely miss these exchanges if Rennae Stubbs decides to make a switch to a different platform. However, this isn’t the first time that we’ve seen tennis legends criticizing X (formerly Twitter).
Former tennis players including Serena Williams’ former coach share their thoughts on Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter
The business magnate, Elon Musk initiated an acquisition of the American social media company, Twitter, on 14th April 2022 and it concluded on 27th October 2022. What’s your perspective on:
Is Bluesky the fresh start tennis legends need, or just another fleeting social media trend?
Have an interesting take?
After seeing this post another Twitter user agreed with it and said, “I just got Kyle Rittenhouse….I’m done. Will miss you, @Martina, @rennaestubbs.” Then Martina Navratilova and Serena Williams‘ former coach, Rennae Stubbs joined the discussion. Navratilova wrote, “I’m still here:)” Stubbs went a step further and added, “Don’t blame you. @elonmusk really told us who he was.”
Although Bluesky users are spiking, it still lags far behind X. According to a Forbes report, Bluesky has about 14.5 million total users, while X claimed in March that it has about 250 million users who use the social media platform every day. With these two tennis legends popping up on this topic yet again in the tennis world, it’ll be interesting to see who follows Serena Williams’ former coach Rennae Stubbs, and Pam Shriver on the list.
