The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion won 10 aces and 46 of 63 first-serve points in her final tournament (including 24 of 27 in the first set). In the first set, both players held serve until Williams broke Kontaveit to take a 5-4 lead.

Serena Williams stunned tournament No. 2 seed, Anett Kontaveit, in her second round game at the US Open, winning 7-6, 2-6, 6-2 to progress in the tournament. In the first and second rounds of the US Open, she is now 42-0 all-time.

Williams’ return to Arthur Ashe Stadium broke several records for attendance
The spectators’ attendance at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, New York, increased greatly as a result of Serena Williams’ draw. The US Open set numerous attendance records on the first day of this year’s competition, according to a USTA press release.

Serena Williams returned to Arthur Ashe Stadium for the first round of the US Open, attracting a record-breaking 29,402 spectators. This was the largest audience ever recorded for an evening session at Arthur Ashe Stadium. This figure, combined with the Opening Day Session attendance record of 41,930 fans in the stands, resulted in the US Open’s second-highest single-day attendance mark of 71,332 spectators.
Williams will play unseeded, Ajla Tomljanovic, in the third round. She will also compete in doubles with her sister Venus at the US Open. With 23 Grand Slam titles, Williams is regarded as the greatest female tennis player of all time.
