While the tennis world was expecting big-name players to shine at the Australian Open, a few names came out of nowhere and marked the start of a new era in tennis. One amongst them is the Chinese sensation, Qinwen Zheng. Coming into the tournament as the 12th seeded, she has managed to make her way into the semi-finals of the tournament while stunning everyone.
While fans are falling in love with her gameplay, even the legends of the game cannot resist watching the young star in her element. The same happened with Rod Laver who graced everyone with his presence during Zheng’s quarter-final match. However, the young Chinese player had no idea whatsoever of the legend’s presence in the crowd.

After winning her match in a three-set thriller, Qinwen Zheng was asked about Rod Laver in the post-match conference. She hilariously stated that of course, she knew who Rod Laver was! But she did not know if he was present in the stadium or not. The Chinese star further added that she was completely focusing on the ball and her opponent.
Zheng asked whether she knew Rod Laver was watching.
"Of course I know the guy, but I didn't know he was watching. I focus on the green ball only and on the opponent."

Qinwen’s words highlight her intense concentration during matches as she stayed focused on the game rather than being aware of legendary spectators. Nevertheless, it was an answer that brought smiles to the crowd’s faces.
However, while she made her way into the final 4 of the tournament, she also entered the top 10 ranking in the WTA. But completely unaware of this, Zheng required some help from Jelena Dokic.

In the post-match interview, Jelena Dokic asked how it felt now that she will be entering the list of the top 10 players in the world. However, Zheng, who had no idea about this said Thank you instead. Surprised by the answer, Dokic asked if she did not know that she had entered the top 10, to which she replied, “I didn’t know. Nobody tells me anything.”

Qinwen Zheng, who has been a key standout at the Australian Open this year had to take some help from Dokic to confirm that she finally made her way into the top 10 of the WTA rankings.
