The latest being the overruling of the Roe vs Wade verdict. However, this time, the latest target of Gauff’s strong views were the naysayers who criticized Gauff for her opinions on the verdict during her match.
Gauff explains how bad-mouthing helps her
Days ago, Gauff opened up about her views on the Roe vs Wade verdict. Taking to her Twitter handle, Gauff criticized the American Supreme Court, calling it a sad day for the country. Giving reason for her decision, she further added that it is opening doors for illegal and unsafe abortions.
While the opinion by Gauff was welcomed in the most pleasant way by many, there were also others who didn’t get well with the opinion. The result? During her first round Wimbledon clash against Ruse, she was mocked by the spectators who asked her to focus on her game.
The mocking might have affected Gauff’s performance a bit. However, her statement after the match was possibly the best answer to those spectators. During the post-match press conference, Gauff opened up about how incidents like these help her. She also revealed the reason behind her always wanting to win.
“I’m pretty active off the court regarding issues like that. It definitely does fuel & motivate me to do even better. Today that helped a bit just cuz ppl were saying You need to shut up & focus on tennis, blah, blah, blah. I like to win just to put that in their faces,” she said.

Coco Gauff at the 2022 Wimbledon
Wimbledon has undoubtedly been a decently successful tournament for Gauff. Playing twice, and reaching the fourth round on both occasions, this year, Gauff aims to surpass the fourth-round mark. Ending her clay court season as the French Open finalist, Gauff kicked off her grass court season at the BET 1 Open. Having a strong start, she suffered a semifinal loss to the top seed, Ons Jabeur.
