Taylor Townsend has become the talk of the town since she arrived in Canada. After winning the Wimbledon doubles title, the American tennis player is aiming for another shot at glory. The journey has been anything but easy for her. The first blow came when Townsend had to wait for the whole day to play her qualifier for the Masters’ 1000 event. Another blow came at the doubles, as she exited in the initial rounds. But stars were on her side, as she made it further in the singles. But then came the recent blow to Townsend, and her manager made sure that the world and organizers knew about it.

Townsend was slated to play against the World No. 11, Jelena Ostapenko during the round of 16 and everyone thought that the American, ranked World No. 71 in singles, wouldn’t be able to survive the higher-ranked player. The organizers made some faulty choices ahead of the clash, as they forgot to put Townsend’s picture in the players’ summary. Hence, when the fans clicked on the upcoming matches, Townsend’s corner was a blank one. While she was busy preparing for the match, her manager, Kenny Hamilton, took it upon himself to defend her.

It’s not about the display of the picture as much as it is about the pride, and putting everyone on the same plate. However, it could be a technical error that was not rectified in time. But the damage was done, as Hamilton took to Instagram and shared a story, taking a dig and tagging the organizers to remind them what they were missing. He wrote, “@Tnnsapp didn’t give @tay_townsend a chance today. Couldn’t even have her picture up. Wait for it..”

Townsend did not just get to the quarterfinals, she sailed through her match against Ostapenko with a dominant display (6-2,6-1). Hamilton was quick to highlight her tennis prowess as he launched another sharp attack while reminding the organizers to respect her. He wrote, “Lesson: don’t matter what they say. @tay_townsend handled the business today!!! @Tnnsapp put some respect on her name and face !!!”

It certainly hurts when the Grand Slam winner is treated as a forgotten player for any reason. However, Townsend and her manager ensured that the tournament remembers her, as she takes great strides in the singles category. The 2024 season is undoubtedly lucky for the American tennis sensation.

In the last 3 years, Townsend has fought a lot of battles, particularly off the court. After having her baby through a c-section, she made a terrific comeback, becoming a US Open finalist in the doubles in 2022, a French Open finalist in 2023, and winning Wimbledon in 2024. It was a long journey, though a fruitful one when looked at by the present lens. Moreover, this year, she has claimed the Adelaide Open, and DC Open, and is now on her way to work the miracle in the singles at the Canadian Open.
