Bianca Andreescu, the Canadian tennis sensation, shocked the entire world when she outclassed the legend, Serena Williams. Andreescu got the better of 23 times Grand Slam champion at the finals of the US Open 2019. Thus claiming her very first Grand Slam title at just the age of 19. Thereafter, she clinched the trophy at the Canadian Open and became the first Canadian player to do so in 50 years.

However, not much after she fell prey to injuries and moved out of the circuit. Though she later made a comeback, her game wasn’t the same. Therefore, the 21-year-old, after suffering several early exits in 2021, took a mental break. The break lasted for almost six months and currently, Bianca is all set to test her luck in the French Open. But before her first match, she addressed the media and answered some questions regarding the newcomers.

Bianca Andreescu Speaks About the Young Bloods

The Canadian herself is just 21 years old. However, she has experience in almost every aspect of tennis. From being on the elite list to being crushed both mentally and physically by the pressure of repeated injuries. Hence, when asked if she feels older than the players, such as Emma Raducanu and Leylah Fernandez, she said, “Yeah, I still feel that I’m young. But at the same time when I do see players like Coco Gauff, Emma Raducanu, Iga, she’s younger than me, I feel like I’m getting older.”

“So it’s a good reality check to put me in my place. Like, come on, your time is slowly running out, which is good in a way. And it’s really nice to see that, because I was also doing very well at their age. So to see young athletes do well is always really nice to see.” She added.

Who Is Andreescu’s First Opponent?

The former World no.4 is going to play against the Ysaline Bonaventure, the Belgian tennis professional, in the first round of Roland Garros. Ysaline has won two double titles in WTA tours and 12 singles titles in the ITF circuit. Although the 27-year-old has won just one of her five Grand Slam matches so far, at the 2020 US Open.

Therefore, it won’t be wrong to say Andreescu, who recently made a run to the quarterfinals of the Italian Open, has a better chance of claiming victory in the upcoming match. Andreescu and Bonaventure will lock horns on 23rd May at court 7 for a seat in the second round of the French Open.
