American tennis star Serena Williams is in the twilight of her career. The 40-year-old has already announced her retirement plans and is currently playing in the US Open for one last time. While the legend entered the last Grand Slam of the year with poor form, she has arguably been on the top of her game in her first two matches.

The former world number one cruised to an easy straight-set victory against Danka Kovinic in her first-round match. Later she won a tough match against the second seed, Anett Kontaveit, to book her third-round slot. While the whole world is in awe of Williams’ brilliant win, golf legend Tiger Woods also came up with an appreciation post for the retiring legend.

Tiger Woods congratulates Serena

When Williams came into the US Open, after suffering a heavy defeat against Emma Raducanu, almost no one gave her a big chance. However, the 40-year-old has not given up the fight yet. Williams is in the third round with a hard-fought win. And golf legend Tiger Woods was also in the awe of Williams’ greatness. After she finished her match, Woods took to his Twitter account to congratulate the 23-time Grand Slam champion.

“It was a privilege to watch greatness. Congrats @serenawilliams,” he wrote.

Notably, Woods was present at the Arthur Ashe stadium to support Williams in her second-round clash.

With this win, Serena has saved another of her record. She has never exited the US Open before the third round in her entire career, and it will likely remain that way forever now.

Serena to play doubles with sister Venus Williams

The Williams sisters are all set to entertain fans in the women’s doubles as well. Serena Williams and Venus Williams have accepted a wild card entry to the last Grand Slam of the year. As it is going to be the last event for Serena, this will likely be the last time we will see the Williams sisters in action together again.

While both Serena and Venus are great players in the singles leg, the lesser talked about fact is that they both have aced the doubles game as well. They have won fourteen Grand Slam titles together and also have three Olympic gold medals in women’s doubles.
