US Open 2021: Interesting first-round matches

In an exceptional opening-round encounter, two-time Grand Slam champion Simona Halep will face the in-form Camila Giorgi. Notably, while Halep has been on the road to recovery since May, the Italian has consistently improved on the Tour.

Moreover, Giorgi even won the Canadian Open title recently. Hence, it is the genuine test for the former World No.1 from Romania.

Another two-time Grand Slam champion, Garbine Muguruza, will take the Donna Vekic test on Day 1. Considering their recent performances, both will push each other to the edge to win this match.

Following them, Danielle Collins against Carla Suarez Navarro could be another entertaining encounter. To note, the Spaniard is playing her last US Open this year and will aim to go as deep in the tournament as she can.

Significantly, the Karolina Muchova and Sara Sorribes Tormo battle might also deliver high-quality tennis. Since both players are great competitors, it would not be easy to pick a winner between the two. Similarly, Maria Sakkari and Marta Kostyuk would also stay toe-to-toe with each other to kick start their US Open 2021 campaign.

Finally, the 2019 champion Bianca Andreescu will meet Viktorija Golubic in her opening round. Given her form, she would need to elevate her game to get past the Swiss professional.
