In another epic encounter during the second round of the Tokyo Olympics 2020, fans witnessed Iga Swiatek suffer a humiliating defeat at the hands of Paula Badosa Gibert. The Spaniard thrashed the World No.8 player in straight sets with the final scoreline of 6-3, 7(7)-6(4).

Iga Swiatek began the match in style and she easily won the first game. However, Paula Badosa Gibert equalized the scoreline in the very next game with the help of some amazing forehand winners.

It was Swiatek who broke first in the fourth game and was leading 3-1. However, Badosa broke back and narrowed down the margin to 3-2.

The Spaniard broke yet again in the seventh game after saving three break-points in the previous game. As a result, she was now leading 4-3. She won her next service game and then broke for the third time to seal the set 6-3 in 39 minutes.

Set-2: Game, Set, Match for Paula Badosa Gibert
World No.8 Swiatek once again enjoyed a great start as she broke in the very first game and then went on to win the subsequent one to establish a 2-0 lead over Badosa. However, the Spaniard bounced back and leveled the scoreline at 2-2 after breaking in the fourth game. She even won the subsequent game and was now leading 3-2 over Swiatek.

Even though Swiatek fought hard and managed to equalize the scoreline, Badosa dominated on her serve. Therefore, the Polish player failed to break, and the Spaniard extended her lead to 4-3 at the end of the seventh game.

Swiatek somehow saved a break-point in the eighth game and won it after four deuces. With this, she again managed to equalize the scoreline at 4-4. However, she failed to return the service of Badosa effectively again and was now trailing 5-4.

Serving to save the set, Swiatek delivered some really great services under pressure and leveled the scoreline at 5-5. Both the players won their service games and thus, the set entered into the tie-breaker. It was Badosa who played amazingly well in the tie-breaker, conquered the set 7-6, and thus won the match.
