Former American tennis professional Chris Evert ruled the courts from the early 70s to the late 80s. During her illustrious career, Evert made it to an impressive 34 Grand Slam finals, winning in 18 of those. Overall, she won 157 singles and 32 doubles titles in total and claimed the ranking of World No.1 seven times in her career. Therefore, it won’t be wrong to say that Evert is one of the all-time greats of tennis.
Even though only a few can bank records of her sort, the tennis legend is humble enough to praise the worthy. Recently, Evert took to Twitter to praise Taylor Townsend, who welcomed her son last year and took part in the ongoing French Open.

Last year Townsend walked out of the circuit to prepare for the birth of her baby boy, Adyn Aubrey Johnson. After that, she made a comeback and is taking part in the ongoing clay season. Evert appreciated the efforts Townsend is putting to get back on track. Further, Evert herself came across an enormous challenge this year. She was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer in January. Recently, she broke some joyful news for her fans.

The former World No.1 shared a clip of herself ringing the chimes for the last time at the cancer medical facility. Thus informing everyone that she has successfully completed all six chemotherapy sessions and has safely escaped from the clutches of the deadly disease.

What has Townsend’s career been like?

Taylor, in the year 2012, became the first American to claim the No. 1 ranking in the junior category since 1982. She was also named the ITF Junior World Champion that year. Thereafter, Townsend started taking part in the tour and claimed a career high ranking of 61 in 2018. Following that, the American had a run till the last 16 of 2019 US Open while also she reaching the semifinals of 2020 US Open in the women’s doubles category.

Recently the 26-year-old took part in the French Open. Despite her spirited effort, she failed to secure her position in the second round as she lost to Caroline Garcia in straight sets (3-6, 4-6).
