On Friday, a jet plunged from the sky, erupting into an inferno that engulfed multiple buildings in Philadelphia. A Procedural Medical Transport flight was carrying crew members, a child patient, and the patient’s escort when it went down – soon after takeoff in the evening. Flames and thick smoke filled the sky as emergency crews rushed to the scene, rescuing injured civilians caught in the wreckage. The disturbing news has led to many big names responding; of them, one was Martina Navratilova’s.

The jet – en route to Missouri – crashed near Roosevelt Mall in northeast Philadelphia. The patient onboard had been receiving care at Shriners Children’s Hospital in the city and was accompanied by her mother when disaster struck. “Our hearts and prayers go out to the families of the medical crew and pilots who were also lost in this tragic event – as well as all of the people who were affected on the ground-and we’re thankful to the first responders for their quick action,” Shriner’s Children’s Hospital Shriner said in a prompt statement.

Later, the operator of the medical transport, Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, confirmed that four crew members were involved as well. “No names are being released at this time until family members have been notified,” the company stated. “Our immediate concern is for the patient’s family, our personnel, their families and other victims that may have been hurt on the ground.”
