What a setback! Paula Badosa was in stellar form in the last few months. She won the Citi Open, reached the SF of the Cincinnati Masters, and QF of the US Open. Even in the Asian swing, she kicked off her campaign quite impressively, but sadly for the Spaniard, she was forced to give a walkover in the Ningbo Open SF match against Daria Kasatkina due to illness – losing the match 4-6. Now, as per the latest reports coming from the Spanish camp, Badosa’s 2024 season might has come to an end following her withdrawal in Ningbo.
Sharing the news, Paul Badosa wrote on her Instagram, “Because of health issues I wasn’t able to play yesterday and won’t be able to play Tokyo unfortunately. My 2024 season has ended. Has been a very long season where I overcame situations I thought they were impossible.”
She further added, “I’m, very proud of my self. I’m back where I wanted to be an where I was aiming since my comeback. (one of the best players in the world against) Already looking forward to recover well and prepare to represent my country in Malaga for BJKC. Thank you for the support always. See you soon.” This was Paula Badosa’s fourth walkover from a match in the 2024 season!

Even if she had somehow managed to take part in the 2024 Japan Open, the road to the title triumph still would have been difficult. Paula Badosa was all set to face Katie Boulter in the first match and Beatriz Hadda Maia in the QF. However, with the form she was in this season, fans were optimistic about the Spaniard. Badosa has, time and again, revealed that she loves playing in Asia. This withdrawal might just have brought in a new set of disappointments in her mind as well. In September this year, Paul Badosa revealed that the “low point” for her was in the middle of the season. “It was really bad. Coming from the injury in the beginning, you never know what to expect,” said Badosa. She explained how she struggled a bit with her back issues at the start of the season. Badosa failed to maintain consistency in her game at the time, and this is what shook her confidence.

“In my mind, I was thinking, like, maybe I should quit because if I’m not in the highest level, I don’t want to play this sport. I don’t want to be in the ranking I was in that moment. For me, it doesn’t make sense. That’s how I am as my personality. So if I’m not on the top or in the best players in the world, I don’t want to play this sport, ” said Paula Badosa. However, she decided not to quit, stuck with her team’s plan, and trusted the process. Results?
