Wozniacki and Vekic dodge a bullet—are they the luckiest players in WTA right now?

Donna Vekic and Caroline Wozniacki have passed the first test ahead of the Olympics! The pictures of many WTA players for the Games have drawn ire in the tennis world, with some comparing them to mugshots! Jessica Pegula and Iga Swiatek have entered that unfortunate list. But, luckily, two stars have emerged unscathed from the chaos: Vekic and Wozniacki, whose snaps are coming as a breath of fresh air!

The Summer Olympics are less than ten days away, and the sporting community has the mugshots of players at hand. A confusing sentence, but their recent pictures can’t be described as anything else. Players have to abide by the strict rules of the pictures to be submitted. No makeup, no jewelry, and no expressions, along with a white background.

Pretty rough, right? Especially for the WTA players whom we are used to witnessing vehemently hitting their shots on-court or glamming up elegantly off-court. Bianca Andreescu, Angelique Kerber, Iga Swiatek, and Jessica Pegula, followed the rules, and the result is hilarious and disappointing. Some fans have even hilariously drawn comparisons of their photos with that of pictures taken of prisoners.

The collective sigh of disbelief must have reached the correct place, as Donna Vekic and Caroline Wozniacki’s snaps stand out as a beacon of joy. Fans, who have hardly seen their favorite WTA players without makeup, or in a close-up shot with a grim and expressionless face, are happy to see two dolled up, and with smile, exhibiting their joy and excitement to perform in the majestic event of the Olympics.

As Vekic will proudly represent Croatia, Wozniacki will take her country, Denmark, forward in the Olympics, set to begin on July 26. The 28-year-old player donned a stylish look with eyeliners highlighting her eyes, lipstick, and earrings, giving it a more complete look with her adorable smile. Beside her is Wozniacki, the former World No. 1 with open hair and makeup too, smiling at the camera.

Sadly, this is not the first time that such strange Olympic photos of the top players in tennis have received criticism. Olympic photos from a decade ago saw a similar scenario unfold where players like Victoria Azarenka, Gael Monfils, and Dimitry Tursnov’s grim-looking snaps graced the fans.

The most prominent name among them is Serena Williams. The reason given for that was their “ill-preparation” before the photoshoot. As the same question arises again, we are all wondering what the answers will be this time. Regardless of the bizarre photos, they are all excited to participate on a grand stage this season, and Caroline Wozniacki’s Instagram post is proof of that!
