Madison Keys wishes to hold onto “the safest decision” before Paris Olympics!  After showing team spirit with Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula, Keys has chosen not to play in the Olympics. Although she represented her country in Rio in 2016 and finished fourth in singles, eight years later the injury bug has bitten her. Delving deeper into her reasons, Keys explained why she thinks it is the “best decision” for her.

A reliable tennis source shared a clip, where America’s WTA star Madison Keys revealed her feelings about opting out of the Paris Olympics. She was one of the players in the roasters with Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, and others. “It was a really tough decision but having missed the beginning of the season due to injury and it being clay and then grass and then clay, straight into hard,” Keys divulged.

But it’s not just the surface change hitting like whiplash for the American. “Obviously I had a really big hardcore season last year, so there’s also the kind of pressure defending that as well. It just felt like the best decision given my many, many years on the tour,” said Keys, affirming to stand on a safe decision.

Keys wanted to “stay healthy” so that she could play “the rest of the season.” Although, she finds the decision as a “bummer” she still believes “that’s just kind of how thing play out.” Keys further revealed that the timezone and surface difference were major factors behind her decision to withdraw from the Paris Olympics. Since Keys will not be going to Paris with Team USA, Emma Navarro will reportedly join them for the Olympics 2024.

With her withdrawal now, the list is only increasing. Earlier this month, Ons Jabeur also suffered a similar fate and had to withdraw her name from the Olympics in a saddening revelation.

While Grand Slams are glorious, the Olympics bring a different energy. But it seems like there are some players who will not get to enjoy the glitz and glamour of Paris this year. Ons Jabeur, while playing in the quarter-finals of the WTA Berlin Open suffered a major setback against Coco Gauff which eventually forced her to withdraw from the match.

Shedding light on her injury later, the Tunisian announced that she would not be a part of the Olympics team as this decision was taken after serious consultation with her team. “After consulting with my medical team regarding attending the Olympics in Paris, we have decided that the quick change of surface and the body’s adaptation required would put my knee at risk. Unfortunately, I will not be able to participate in the Paris Olympics 2024,said Jabeur in a heartfelt confession. Even her close friend Aryna Sabalenka is out.
