Good times for American women’s tennis! For the first time since the week of May 24, 2004, five American women are ranked inside the Top 15 of the WTA singles rankings. Leading the pack is world number 2, Coco Gauff, followed by Jessica Pegula at number 6. Danielle Collins, Madison Keys, and Emma Navarro occupy the 9th, 14th, and 15th spots, respectively. Four of these five players will represent the nation at the Paris Olympics later this month. Jessica Pegula is thrilled to have the company of her fellow teammates on this list and has shared her enthusiasm for the upcoming event.
The previous five American women to feature in the Top 15 were Lindsay Davenport, Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Jennifer Capriati, and Chanda Rubin. Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, and Madison Keys began the 2024 season inside the Top 15. Despite being out of action for some time, Pegula and Keys managed to hold their positions, but the rise of Collins and Navarro this season has been a major surprise to the tennis world. Pegula, Gauff, Collins, and Navarro will represent Team USA at the Paris Olympics.
The team looks solid and has received a significant boost ahead of their Paris campaign. Jessica Pegula recently shared a post from the USTA regarding the “5 American women in Top 15 for first time since May 2004.” She wrote, “Let’s go girls” in the caption of that post on her X (formerly Twitter) account.

Madison Keys is a major miss in that list to Paris. She represented the US at the 2016 Rio Olympics but has withdrawn from the upcoming event, citing her body’s need for a break. However, she was quite impressed to see her compatriots thrive in the Tour. “It’s always amazing to see some of the people that I grew up with doing really well and playing well,” Keys said during the Wimbledon. She now hopes the team performs well in Paris later this month. What does the Olympics mean to Gauff, Pegula, and two others?
