In a recent interview, Aryna Sabalenka’s former coach came ahead and shared insights into the challenges she faced due to her late father’s legal issues. Maciej Domka, who trained Sabalenka when she was young, revealed that Sabalenka trained alone. She was driven by internal motivation to overcome difficulties and make a mark in tennis.

“No, parents did not show up for training. From what I know, her dad had some legal issues. Aryna was alone in all this. I have the impression that this was also her internal motivation, pushing her forward. She wanted to stand out at all costs,” said Domka while talking about Sabalenka’s early journey.

With absent parents during training, Sabalenka channeled her anger into powerful plays on the court. Domka talked about her intense training routine, where she practiced tirelessly from Monday to Saturday. Not only this, she also revealed that Sabalenka even engaged in unique “regenerative cross-country” training on Sundays.

“There was a lot of anger in her. She converted all her negative energy into punches. Plus the incredible intensity in training. Her power to hit the ball was gigantic, full power in every play. And so she was able to train from Monday to Saturday, and on Sunday she could go for “regenerative cross-country” training with her trainer and run or practice cross-country skiing for three hours,” she further added.

Thus, Aryna Sbaalenka, despite getting the support of her father right from the start faced many difficulties as her father could not accompany her to her training. During her early years as a tennis player, she had a lot of anger and would do intensive training just to become the best in the world.

Domka reveals the immense work Sabalenka would put into becoming the best

Talking further in the interview, she suggested that Aryna Sabalenka was already the most hardworking person in the academy. However, at that time, she could not put her hard work into the results that she wanted. Domka suggested that her junior career was not bad but not even the best, considering the efforts that she pulled off.

“She was incredibly determined to work and trained with very high intensity. To be honest, I don’t think anyone there trained as hard as she did. However, this did not translate into results at that time. She was one of the TOP 5 juniors in the world and won the Australian Open in this category. Aryna’s junior stage was average, not to say weak. She also played in smaller tournaments, but initially without much success,” added Domka.
