Romanian tennis star Simona Halep and Australian coach Darren Cahill had one of the most successful player-coach runs. The couple managed to reach the summit in WTA Rankings and win the 2018 French Open. However, things needed a change in Team Simona. And so, she decided to end her six-year partnership with Cahill.
Moreover, Halep shared an emotional post on Instagram to officiate the news. She wrote, “After six wonderful years working together, Darren Cahill and I have decided that it’s time to end our working relationship. Thank you, D, for everything, for making me a better tennis player and a better person.”

When he saw the shared photo, memories resurfaced in Cahill’s eyes instantaneously. Hence, he decided to respond to Halep’s beautiful gesture.

He said, “No, thank you, Simo, for allowing me to take an incredible ride on your journey with you. I remember this photo above like it was yesterday, and it is just one of many amazing memories. A great player but, most importantly, a great person and friend. All the best, Simo.”

From when to when Darren Cahill coached Simona Halep?
In 2016, Cahill joined Team Simona Halep for the first time. Significantly, in the next three years, the Romanian had reached three Grand finals and had become the number one player in the world.

However, in 2018, the former player turned coach decided to take a break to spend more time with his family. During that time, Halep lifted her second Grand Slam title in Wimbledon.
Soon after, near the end of the 2019 season, Halep and Cahill reunited once again. And they were together until the US Open 2021, where the Romanian lost to Elina Svitolina for the first time in a Grand Slam.

Where will Halep play next on the tennis tour?
Recently-married Halep has not yet revealed her return date. In all likelihood, she might take a short break and enjoy her life outside of the tennis court.
As for fans, they would hope to see Halep back on the WTA Tour at the earliest. Let’s see if she decides to play at the upcoming WTA 1000 Indian Wells event.
