Coco Gauff, the young American tennis star, has been making waves in the sport ever since she burst onto the scene in 2019. Many fans consider Gauff to be one of the most promising talents in tennis. However, her upcoming clay season has become more challenging due to her recent split with coach Diego Moyano.

During her pre-tournament press conference ahead of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, Gauff clarified that she did not initiate the split. Instead, personal issues compelled him to step down as her coach. Despite their good rapport, she supports his decision and wishes him well.

The American star had a successful partnership with Moyano. Despite the split, Gauff is taking it in her stride and focusing on the upcoming clay season. The split has left her with a tough decision regarding her coaching situation with the French Open on the horizon. As of now, she has reverted to training with her father, whom she had worked with in the past.

In her press conference, Gauff said, “Yeah, it wasn’t like my decision. He was having some personal things going on, so he had to step down. So I wouldn’t say it was something that I think both of us didn’t want to happen because we did have such a good time together.”

She revealed that she had initially planned to hire a coach before the clay season. Gauff acknowledged that it might not be the ideal situation, but she feels comfortable with her father. She is aware that the European clay summer will be a challenging period, and she needs to be at her best to compete against the top players in the world.

Gauff added, “But, you know, I understand that, and I wish him nothing but the best. I know that he’s always a person. If I need to call he’ll pick up the phone, and I had a great year with him. Regarding coaching, right now it’s just me and my dad, back with him (smiling). You know, I had the goal of maybe getting a coach before the clay season. But I feel like after Miami is when I found out from Diego, so I didn’t have that much time to decide. Now I’m on the fence more so just staying with the situation that I have now maybe instead of introducing someone new.”
