Emma Raducanu has to deal with yet another challenge at the end of 2022. More than her underwhelming performances over the course of the season, her constant changing of the coaching staff has gained the attention of both fans and pundits. Currently, she is looking for her fifth coach in sixteen months. Taking note of this approach, American legend, Billie Jean King, gave a piece of advice to help her choose a wise coach.

She asked the former US Open champion and told her to focus on someone who would want to stay.

Billie Jean King gives valuable advice to Emma Raducanu

The British tennis player is going through a rough patch in her career. Her former coach, Dmitry Tursunov, has made the decision to leave Raducanu after guiding her since this summer. Billie Jean King voiced concern for the young player and gave her a piece of advice. She stated, “I hope she gets people she can trust, who have no agenda.” Furthermore, she raised her concern and said, “She needs to get away from people who have agendas, like ‘I wanna coach you, I wanna do this’ forget that.”

“She needs to be herself and she’s very bright, actually very level-headed. I’m really impressed with her as a human being,” added King.

Her former coach is now working with the Swiss star, Belinda Bencic. Many fans of the British star accused him of leaving Raducanu to switch over to another player.

However, he denied such claims and said, “I was walking away from Emma regardless of whether there was another (player) available or not.” Furthermore, he praised Raducanu for her talent and zeal. He said, “She is hungry to improve and is obsessed with tennis. I really wanted to make it work.”

What happened to Raducanu in 2022?

Under Tursunov, Raducanu won eight out of the 15 matches that she played. Showing her grit, she also reached the semi-finals of the Korea Open, as well. However, she did not have great success at the US Open and lost in the opening round of the major. Raducanu was criticized for not being able to perform, particularly at her home Grand Slam, Wimbledon and at the US Open, where she was the defending champion.
