Pegula improved leaps and bounds this year and went on to win her first Masters tournament. She rose to rank 3 last year and sustained it till the US Open rolled around. She didn’t fall far as she will end 2023 ranked 5. Pegula shared dreams about the 2024 Olympics last year with us. However, there is one aspect of the tournament that she does not like.

In the United Cup press, she said that it is weird that a team has the possibility of playing against each other. As per her, it should be a team event, and the chance to play against their compatriots could demolish the team atmosphere.

She explained, “It’s weird when you can still play each other. To me, that’s just bizarre. When I played doubles the last time, it almost felt more fun because we were the only doubles team left for our team & everyone was behind us & everyone wants you to win. I don’t know.

Pegula further said, “It would be weird playing each other for such a big moment & having the same coaches or the same team with you the entire week to me is weird. I would love if it changed to more of a team aspect.” Despite finding one aspect of the Olympics against her liking, Pegula still has big dreams for the tournament with her 19-year-old doubles partner.
