Sisters Venus and Serena Williams are two of the most successful tennis players of all time. Apart from their brilliance on the court, they are also known for speaking their mind from the start of their career.

Back in 2000, the sisters were at the peak of their game. While the whole world acknowledged their prowess, a few were not happy with their behavior. The Williams sisters got criticism for not being sociable.
In an interview, they clarified their side of the story.
Venus and Serena Williams justify their behavior
Replying to the accusations they were facing, the younger sister, Serena, said that she believes in sticking close to the family. Also, the then 18-year-old rising star clarified that they are cordial but prefer focusing on their game.
“The world is not perfect. Just stick close to yourself and be not too friendly. That’s why a lot of people have a problem with us because we’re not too friendly with anyone,” she said.

Further, the elder sister Venus said that they are very polite because of the way their parents brought them up.
“I believe that Serena and I are very polite… because that’s the way our parents taught us,” she said.

John McEnroe unhappy with the Williams sisters
One of the few people who was unhappy with the behavior of the Williams sisters was American legend, John McEnroe. The tennis veteran was critical of the lack of humility shown by them. He called them out and questioned if saying hello to people in the locker room was too hard for them.

Now that the sisters have justified their side of the story, it all makes sense.

Over the years, if there is one thing that the Williams sisters didn’t disappoint anyone in, it would be their performances on the court. From their phenomenal achievements, it is quite evident that they have developed into two of the best players ever seen in the sport.
