American tennis legend Serena Williams returned to the tour last month. Prior to playing in the Wimbledon Championships 2022, she featured in doubles at the Eastbourne International. However, she got to play just two matches in the tournament. Her partner pulled out due to injury, subsequently ending their campaign. Going into Wimbledon, Serena was short of match practice and crashed out of the tournament with a first-round loss.

The 40-year-old is next targeting her home Grand Slam. However, this time she will be prepared, as she has signed up for two tournaments prior to the US Open. The former world number has also started practicing for the upcoming hard court swing.

Serena Williams practices with Sachia Vickery

Serena Williams is going to play the National Bank Open in Toronto next month. The 40-year-old has started practicing for the same. In a viral video, Serena was seen practicing with American tennis player Sachia Vickery on the hard court. The footage is from Serena’s home town Florida, and originally, the video was from Vickery’s Instagram story.

“Practice with Da GOAT @Serenawilliams,” she wrote in the caption.

Later, Venus also practiced with Vickery.

“Practice Number 2 also the GOAT @Venuswilliams not me hitting back to back with two legends,” Vickery wrote in the caption.

After the Rogers Cup, Serena will play in the Cincinnati Masters prior to her entry into the US Open. While Venus will return to singles after over a year to play in the Citi Open for the first time.

Williams’ records in the US Open

Serena is a seasoned campaigner with immense success in the final Grand Slam tournament of the season. She has clinched the US Open title six times in her career (1999, 2002, 2008, 2012, 2013, 2014). The legendary American has the joint highest number of titles with Chris Evert in the open era at Flushing Meadows.

Additionally, her win-loss record at the tournament is a staggering 106-14. Her best performance recently was in the year 2020, when she made it to the semifinals. However, the former world number one went down against Victoria Azarenka.

Even after the consistent performance, Serena has failed to win crucial matches recently. Her last Grand Slam title came 5 years ago in the 2017 Australian Open. Prior to that, Serena was in a dream run as she won at least one Grand Slam every year between (2012-2017.)
