In a recent revelation, Rennae Stubbs talked about Serena and Venus Williams, shedding light on why Serena faced more pressure throughout their careers. Stubbs highlighted that Venus, as the elder sister, often claimed the spotlight. This left Serena in the shadows which cultivated a feeling of being overlooked. Being the younger sister, she often faced the challenge of coming out of the shadow of her sister.

Stubbs thinks this made Serena a bit competitive and gave her a feeling of needing to prove herself. Being the second child, Serena might have felt like she had something to prove because everyone paid more attention to Venus.

“Serena had it more than Venus because she was also the smallest sister and she was always in there for a long time. It was very much it not in the spotlight. Venus had all the spotlight on her and Serena was just the little sister. And I think Serena had a bit of a chip on her shoulder because Venus was getting all the attention. It was the older one and didn’t. No one was really looking at her. And so I think that chip was that was born due to the fact that she was born second in the family,” said Stubbs in her podcast.

Thus, throughout her journey from a young player to a professional player, Serena thought that she had to prove something to the world and get out of the shadow of being the younger sister. However, her hard work helped her reach the top as she managed to clinch 23 grand slams to her name.
