The conditions of the GNP Seguros WTA Finals have not been up to par, to say the least. Since the first match, we have heard comments from players saying that it is quite difficult to adapt to the situation and that the courts are not up to the mark. However, along with the court, the weather is also making it more difficult for WTA stars to manage. Jessica Pegula has even come out and said that she wouldn’t mind if her match was washed out.

Pegula’s major complaint, aside from the quality of the courts, is the weather being too windy. But, one of Serena Williams‘ former coaches differed about the windy conditions. Regardless, the Canadian Open champion is not having a great time in Cancun.

The American tennis star is currently steamrolling player after player and even defeated the world number 1, Aryna Sabalenka. Despite her triumphs, Pegula is not enjoying the tennis taking place in Cancun. The 29-year-old interviewed with Tennis Channel as she awaited her doubles bout. In the interview, she said that if her match was disrupted by nature, she would not be frustrated.

The World No. 5 player said, “Wouldn’t mind if it rained. Maybe after they finish, I don’t mean like in their singles. It’s just not fun playing in these conditions. Of course, I would like to play doubles. I think I have the day off tomorrow, but it’s not even fun when it’s this windy. Gosh, it’s tough.”

Well, Pegula certainly wouldn’t mind the rest she would get if that did indeed happen. But while she claims that the weather was too windy, another tennis personality said such conditions would actually end up being in her favor.

Serena Williams’ former coach favored Cancun conditions for Pegula

When Pegula stepped into her bout against Sabalenka, Rennae Stubbs, the last coach of the Queen of the Court, praised her for her current quality. Her first-round performance gave Stubbs all the confidence she needed to say that Pegula will be tough for players to face this year. She further said that she had an advantage in the tournament due to the windy conditions since she trains in Florida and is likely used to the winds.

Despite Stubbs’ analysis, the American player herself has said that it is quite difficult for her to play in Cancun because of the wind speed. Could it be a misjudgment on the part of the Aussie coach? Or are the winds in Cancun difficult for even Pegula? What do you think?
