Simona Halep, the two-time Grand Slam champion, is going through some rough patches. The Romanian was at her peak form in the year 2017 and riding high on form; she reigned at the 2018 French Open and 2019 Wimbledon Championships. However, not long after that, she fell prey to injuries, lost her grip on the game, and walked out of the elite list.

After recovering from injury and getting married, Halep made a comeback this year and it has been a mixed bag so far. At the recently concluded Italian Open, the Romanian lost in the second round after a straight sets defeat against Danielle Collins. Even so, Halep is optimistic about her future game and is currently enjoying her time off the court.
Simona Halep Loves Speed
Before jumping back on the court, the world no.1 is taking some time for herself. Halep took a trip to the sea, did some jet skiing, and shared her experience on Instagram.
“Love speed! On the tennis court but also on the sea.” This post of hers got the attention of her coach Patrick Mouratoglou as he commented, “No risks please ! “

Patrick Mouratoglou, the French tennis coach, earlier trained Serena Williams. However, as the American is out of the circuit for quite some time now, he has partnered with Halep for an uncertain period of time. Mouratoglou started travelling alongside Simona after the Sunshine Double this year.
Although the coach-player duo hasn’t won a title so far, fans are expecting some groundbreaking records from this partnership as Simona herself admitted that she desires to reclaim her ranking with the help of Patrick.

Iga Swiatek, Biggest Threat to Halep’s Plans
Polish tennis professional Iga Swiatek is storming every tournament she is taking part in. She hasn’t lost a match since the Dubai tennis championships and has surpassed 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams’ record by winning 28 consecutive matches. Therefore, if Halep plans to achieve her lost ranking, she will have to lock horns with the current World No.1 at some point.

Till now, the Romanian has faced Swiatek four times, out of which she has won two matches. Halep has one clay court and one hard court victory against Iga. However, it will be a tough task for Halep to defeat the Pole as the latter appears stronger now than ever. A possible matchup between the two at Roland Garros starting next week would be a great test for the Romanian.
