Canadian tennis star Leylah Fernandez is one of the brightest future prospects in women’s tennis. The 19-year-old last played in Roland Garros. Showing good form in the clay-court Grand Slam, she entered the quarterfinals. However, she lost against Martina Trevisan. Notably, the Canadian suffered a Grade 3 stress fracture in that match and has been out of action.

She failed to recover in time for the Wimbledon Championships 2022 and is currently targeting to get fully fit by the end of July. Recently, the 19-year-old posted a video of herself playing with a rugby ball.

The Canadian seems to be enjoying her break from tennis. In a recent Instagram story, the 19-year-old was seen playing with a rugby ball on the tennis court. The 2021 US Open finalist has a special love for rugby. In the video that was uploaded to her story, the 19-year-old called out NFL legend Tom Brady before showing her quarterback skills.

Fernandez updates on her injury
Away from the action for quite some time now, the Canadian recently posted a video of herself hitting tennis balls against the wall. The 19-year-old seems to be sad about missing out on the grass-court Grand Slam, as her caption reads,
“Physically home, mentally at Wimbledon,”

Further, in a question-answer session with her fans on Instagram, the Canadian revealed that she hopes to make a comeback by the end of July.
Fernandez recently revealed that she will be returning to action at the Citi Open in Washington. The tournament is scheduled to start on the 30th of July. She will be looking forward to getting match-ready for the upcoming US Open 2022.
