Iga Swiatek, the Polish tennis sensation, has taken the world of Women’s tennis in her hold. When the 20-year-old received the ranking of World No.1, many argued that it was only because the former World No.1 Ash Barty retired. However, she has now put those comments to sleep. As she has entered a totally different league in terms of both records and gameplay.

Swiatek hasn’t lost a single match since the fourth round of the Dubai international championship in February. In addition, she has defeated the majority of her opponents in straight sets. Therefore, it won’t be wrong to say that she currently is invisible and the apt person for the ongoing French Open. Further, along with players such as Rafael Nadal, her game has impressed the veteran player John McEnroe.

Recently, after watching the Pole slide in the red dirt with ease, the former World No.1 and seven-time Grand Slam champion said“She is an incredible athlete. I don’t think I have ever seen a player. And this includes Nadal and Djokovic that move, slide into their backhand, the open stance two-hander, and the forehand.” Thereafter, he added, “I think Serena hits a bigger ball. I don’t think she slides the way Swiatek does. And I’ve never seen anyone so smooth on the clay courts.”

Further, Swiatek took down the Ukrainian, Lesia Tsurenko, and the American, Alison Riske, in straight sets in the first two rounds of the tournament. Following that, on Saturday she crushed the 27-year-old Montenegrin tennis professional Danka Kovinić in sets of 6-3, 7-5. Now the 2020 French Open champion is gearing up to secure a seat in the quarterfinals.

Swiatek’s next opponent

Swiatek is pitted against the 19-year-old Chinese tennis ace Zheng Qinwen, who recently claimed the career highest ranking of World No.70. The pole who is riding high on a winning streak of 31 matches and has dropped just one set in the past 47 sets; will meet the Chinese for the first time.

Further, Qinwen, this season claimed a seat in the fourth round of the French Open for the first time. She defeated the two-times Grand Slam champion and former World No.1 Simona Halep in the second round. Hence, it is safe to say that she is playing her best game as well. However, defeating someone of current world No.1’s caliber will be a tough task for the Chinese.
