Former Czech-American tennis player Martina Navratilova had plenty of attention before turning pro in 1975. From an early age, she showed immense talent and now many fans consider her the greatest ever tennis player.

Apart from playing tennis, she was one of the very few outspoken athletes on the planet; she still is. Back in 1991, a reporter mistook her for another legendary American tennis star, Monica Seles, and Navratilova, gave a befitting reply to that reporter.

Martina Navratilova gave a perfect reply to a reporter who mistook her for Monica Seles

After losing to the 17-year-old Monica Seles in the final of the US Open in 1991, Navratilova had to face a lot of tough questions in the press conference. Interestingly, one reporter called her Monica instead of Navratilova, which irked the 18-time Grand Slam champion.

She said, I need a haircut. I am wearing a bra. But it’s Martina, thank you.”

While answering the question, Navratilova looked at her bra, as she took a dig at Seles for not wearing any during her matches. Earlier, the 17-year-old American beat the 34-year-old 7-6, 6-1 in the final of the US Open. Before that, Navratilova showed true class in the semi-final as she beat Steffi Graf. In the meantime, Seles also beat the 15-year-old Jennifer Capriati in the semis to set up a final between her and Navratilova.

In her entire career, Navratilova won 18 Grand Slam singles titles, the fifth most in women’s history, tied with Chris Evert. If she had not lost 8 finals, she could have won more Grand Slam singles titles in her career.

Despite losing in 8 finals, her record in terms of the number of titles won on the tour is unbelievable. Alongside 18 singles titles, she won 41 doubles and mixed doubles titles in Grand Slam tournaments. In total, she won 59 Major titles in her career, second behind Margaret Court.

Moreover, she won 167 singles and 177 doubles titles on the tour, the most ever in the history of tennis. Former American tennis player and one of the legends of this game, Billie Jean King, once called her the greatest all-format player of all time.
