Naomi Osaka on Cloud Nine as She Watches Her Idol Serena Williams’ Match at Toronto’s National Bank Open 2022

Naomi Osaka is a player who got into tennis in some way because of Serena Williams. Osaka’s father got inspired by Richard Williams, who made his daughters the best in the sport. As a result of which he decided to open the world of tennis to his daughters.

Later, both the Osaka siblings picked a taste for the game and decided to pursue it as a profession. Therefore, one can say that the 23 times Grand Slam champion has in a way given WTA one of the best players of the generation. Further, as Williams has played such a major role in Osaka’s life, how could she miss out on supporting her?

Naomi Osaka is a die-hard fan

The 24-year-old tennis ace never shies away from showing love to the people she admires. Be it Hollywood celebs such as Rihanna and Michael Jackson or players against whom she might have to play. Therefore, this time as well as keeping true to herself, and taking the advantage of her location, she geared up to support Williams.

A pumped-up Osaka shared an Instagram story of the loud cheers with which the former World no.1 was welcomed to the Centre Court. Williams played her opening round match of the Canadian Master on 8th August. She locked horns with the Spanish tennis ace Nuria Parrizas-Diaz and outclassed her in straight sets of 6-3, 6-4.

Speaking of Osaka, she is yet to play her first round. The four times Grand Slam champion will soon lock horns with the Estonian professional and former world no.15 Kaia Kanepi on the hard courts of Toronto. This will be their second encounter and Osaka will look forward to settling the score and avenging the 2017 US open defeat.

The Japanese have squared off with the 40-year-old four times out of which she has a lead of 3-1. She first met Williams on the hard courts of the Miami Open. There Osaka got the better of the legend in straight sets of 6-3, 6-2.

Further, the only time Williams managed to out-muscle Osaka was in the quarterfinals of the 2019 Toronto Open. Following that, they clashed one more time in the semifinals of the Australian Open in 2021 and Osaka later claimed the title by defeating Jennifer Brady.
