Naomi Osaka’s short film qualifies for Oscar consideration

Osaka worked as an executive producer in the documentary about Patsy Takemoto Mink.. Mink is the first woman of color elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. The documentary has done well and has officially entered the race for the best documentary short film category at the Oscars.

Meanwhile, the 24-year-old returned to court earlier this month. She won her first-round match in the Citi Open but lost to Coco Gauff in her second match.

Another injury scare for Naomi Osaka

After a second-round exit at the Citi Open, the four-time Grand Slam champion featured in the National Bank Open. Playing in her first-round match against Estonian Kaia Kanepi, the 24-year-old seemed uncomfortable at the beginning and later retired, giving a walkover to her opponent. Notably, the Japanese sustained a back injury and left the court in tears. This could be a major setback for Osaka, who was aiming to regain her form and fitness before the US Open.

Earlier this year, she bowed out of the French Open 2022 after a first-round defeat to Amanda Anisimova. Further, the 24-year-old had to skip the Wimbledon Championships 2022 due to an Achilles injury.
