Coco Gauff, the American tennis professional, touched many headlines this season with her game. She showed signs of becoming the next Maria Sharapova of WTA. She engraved her name on two records marked under the Russian’s name. First, she became the youngest player to enter a Grand Slam final since Sharapova in 2004. Then she qualified for the WTA Finals as the youngest, following in her footsteps.

However, like Sharapova had Serena Williams who rivaled her potential achievements, Gauff has Iga Swiatek. Swiatek at first snatched her French Open trophy and this time she walked her out of the WTA Finals. Here’s what a dejected Gauff had to say about her defeat.

Gauff, while addressing the pres post her defeat, spoke about how heartbreaking her loss was. “It was not my day, it was not my weekend. But okay. Tomorrow, I’ll be ready to fly to Glasgow on Billie Jean King.”

Thereafter, she pondered. “It was my worst week of the year. I have never lost so quickly (6 matches in singles and doubles). ” The 18-year-old made a historic debut in the WTA Finals. Though things went south pretty quickly, Gauff incurred a defeat of 6-3 6-0 against the Pole in singles, and the pair got thrown out of the doubles by the Czech duo of Barbora Krejčíková and Kateřina Siniaková in sets of 6-2 6-1.

The world no.4 after giving a subpar start to the year with only a quarterfinals run coming from the Qatar Open in the hard court season shined in the clay courts of the French Open. She managed to reach the finals of the tournament, which made players like Naomi Osaka pack their bags in the initial rounds without dropping any set.
