Chris Evert had once opened up about her retirement
In an exclusive interview, she had once shared she wouldn’t return to tennis ever again. She claimed she didn’t want to play the game half-heartedly. She wanted to focus on her children and not run behind the prize money.
In the interview, Event was quoted as saying, “At one point, I was thinking about it and pondering it. But then after I had Alex — no. It all changed. Because I couldn’t do anything with half an effort.”
She also shared that she couldn’t go to court without 100% of her focus.
Evert also said ,“..I couldn’t go out there and say, ‘OK, I’ll practice a couple of hours but my heart is with Alex and I’m not really into this.”
The former world no. 1 also clarified,” I mean, why would I do it? For the money? I don’t need the money.”
For a few days, Evert was unable to provide match commentary at the US Open. She had her son’s wedding on her mind a lot.
Currently employed by ESPN as an analyst, the 67-year-old frequently provides match commentary for them.

After her son Nicky Mill wed his fiancée Rebecca, the Hall of Famer shared her joy and pride for the couple on social media. The second-oldest child of Evert and Andy Mill is the 28-year-old Nicky Mill. Evert divorced Mill in 2006 after 18 years of marriage. She was happy to see her son enjoy the wedding and wished the couple more joyful years ahead.

Evert had revealed earlier this year that she had Stage 1 ovarian cancer, and since then, she has had six rounds of chemotherapy. The legendary tennis player has spoken about her treatment and recovery in many interviews. She had thanked her ex-husband Andy Mill for his unwavering support.

She also admitted that while she experienced significant fatigue following her chemotherapy treatments, she was still able to go about her normal day-to-day activities as she recovered.
