The 23 times Grand Slam champion Serena Williams and her husband Alexis Ohanian recently paid homage to their late friend and renowned fashion designer, Virgil Abloh. They both were close to Abloh who lost his life to a rare heart disease.

His demise was sudden, and shocked people close to him, including Ohanian and Williams. They are still grieving and on his death anniversary; they shared their memories.

On November 28th, Williams and Ohanian wrote about the mark the renowned fashion designer has left on their lives and how he will live in their hearts forever. The co-founder of Reddit shared the picture of the last text he received from Abloh. “Yooooo. How goes it!? What’s top of the list on your passion projects these days?” the message read.

He captioned it, “The last thing Virgil wrote me. Just a couple weeks before he passed. My forever Reminder to focus on the passion.” Further speaking of the former World no.1, she is still angry at herself for not going with Abloh’s idea for her 2019 French Open outfit.
She wasn’t ‘brave enough’ back then and still regretted passing the opportunity to don a Met Gala-like train at the clay courts of France. “I should have did it” she wrote on her Instagram stories.

Thereafter, she shared, “It’s been a year and I still can’t put into words the sorrow that I feel. Your touch on the world will live on forever and I couldn’t be more grateful to have witnessed it and had the chance to collaborate with you.”
Williams’ first collaboration with Abloh was in the year 2018. He joined hands with Nike to paint the American professional’s legacy on fabric. Both had admiration for each other’s work and the mutual respect eventually bloomed into a friendship.
Williams’ relationship with fashion
The seven-time Wimbledon champion has always had a thing for fashion. However, the desire to be the best in tennis masked it initially. Therefore, she waited until the establishment of her complete dominance and then embraced her interest fully. Williams has walked many red carpets and has been the show stealer in many fashion events.

This year, she showed her unique fashion sense at the Oscars. Williams attended the 94th Academy awards as the movie King Richard received six nominations. She wore a pink Gucci dress and paired it with black lace gloves.
