Serena and Venus Williams are a duo carrying sisterly synergy, inspiring each other while also elevating the game of tennis. But do you know there was a time when the 23-time Grand Slam champion started looking for her own shadow in her elder sister, bringing out her insecurities from childhood to light? Back in 2017, after becoming a mother, a lot of things changed for the youngest Williams, starting with her body and even her game.

But amid their incredible relationship, Serena Williams once opened out about her fears, which came from thinking that her older sister was flawless on and off the tennis court. Subsequently, just a few days ago, Serena underlined the value of self-love once again by sharing a path of self-improvement and resiliency in her way.

Back in 2018, after having a good year both on and off the tennis court as a player and as a mother, there were a lot of things that troubled the 23-time Grand Slam champion. However, in an interview with GQ, she opened up about how, being a successful tennis player herself, she was not confident in her body, as everything seemed different.

She stated, “I was not myself. I was Venus. Just…Seren-us. I identified as Venus. I felt weird, like, my boobs were bigger than Venus’s, and my body was thicker. I was curvier. I was like, ‘Why am I not Venus?’ And she was tired of me copying her. She was like, ‘Get your own identity, please!’ It was like a window into much bigger things that I would face in the future. I was different. I looked different.”

While Serena has carried this insecurity since her childhood and has admired her sister. She also talked about how, despite being somewhat shy about her curvaceous figure, she began looking up to the seven-time Grand Slam champion. She made note of the fact that she had begun comparing her figure to Venus’s and pondered why the latter didn’t have one like hers.

While the 43-year-old was bored of her sister emulating her, Serena has faced the same issue and developed a love for herself. And she did it in a way that recently inspired her to love herself after giving birth to her second daughter while talking about her body.

Recently, the mother of two took to her Instagram account to share a picture of herself feeling proud of her body while holding her little one in her arms. Along with that, she highlighted how loving yourself is a great thing in every stage of life.

Subsequently, she wrote, “I find that I have to remind myself of that self-love through all different stages in my life. Right now I love that my body is not picture-perfect. I love that I smell like milk – that milk sustains @adiraohanian I love getting to know a new version of my body.” She went on to say that the alterations were worthwhile and that she loved not just her physique but also the new version of herself. She did, however, also include a hint of sarcasm when she mentioned that she would soon go to the gym.
