Does Serena Williams' support for Selena Gomez signal a new era of women-led business ventures?

Serena Williams may have stepped away from the tennis courts, but she’s hardly stepped out of the spotlight! The legendary powerhouse keeps fans’s attention hooked as she channels her talent into the business world proving she’s just as fierce off the court. And this time, it’s her friendship and collaboration with none other than Selena Gomez that’s grabbing attention. Williams recently gave a major shoutout to her friend Gomez, adding a spark to their entrepreneurial bond and showing everyone that her winning spirit extends beyond tennis.

The 43-year-old took to her Instagram story to show products that she received from Wonder Mind, an initiative started by the American singer and actress, Selena Gomez. The tennis great again emphasized the importance of mental health and revealed her passion to work towards positive changes in this field. 

In the video, Williams said, “Speaking of black women in business, I invested in this company called Wondermind.” It was in August 2022, when the star player decided to invest $5 Million in the company co-founded by Gomez, Mandy Teefey, and Daniella Pierson, taking he net worth of the company to $100 Million, as per Fortune magazine. Continuing further, Williams revealed her shared passion with Gomez to work for mental health.

Now, Wondermind is also co-founded by Selena Gomez and we know how much she believes in mental health as well as I do. So, this is a really cool thing,” the 23-times Grand Slam champion added as she unboxed the kit from the brand. For those unaware, the American singer earlier revealed that the idea of the brand stemmed from the fact that she along with her co-founders, wanted to help mothers and daughters talk openly about issues surrounding their mental health. Interestingly, Williams too has opened up about facing similar woes in the past.

 

During an interview with Selena Gomez previously, the American tennis legend revealed, “I’ve been through a lot of things in my life. Just a lot. So there are some times when I’m like, I need to stop talking to people.” It is due to these experiences that Serena Williams can talk more openly about the issues and share some advice with people suffering from similar challenges, as can be seen in her latest Instagram story.

The former tennis sensation shed light on the importance of writing and said, “Doesn’t matter who you are, what you are doing, sometimes it’s often good to give your thoughts on paper. It just kind of releases and helps you just do anything.”

Besides health, Williams has been quite active in the business domain. Be it partnering with brands, or promoting her own fashion venture WYN, the former player has continued to demonstrate that she is equally skillful in the business domain. And as far as her friendship with Gomez is concerned, the star player has continued to extend remarkable support.

Selena Gomez always had immense backing from Serena Williams

Serena Williams and Selena Gomez are more than just business partners. The tennis great has supported the singer in various ventures and endeavors and the bond between them has come to light on multiple occasions.

When the ‘Love You Like a Love Song’ singer-writer launched Rare Beauty’s fall collection in June last year, Williams, a big fashionista herself, immediately extended her support for Gomez. Impressed by her unique makeup range, the tennis legend expressed her awe by commenting “Love” under the singer’s post. Besides, when the singer announced in the same month about the launch of her new album, Williams couldn’t hide her excitement and demanded more details in the comment section.
