Carlos Alcaraz won the 2022 US Open to claim the top spot in the ATP. This year, he was ousted in the Australian Open quarterfinal and the French Open semifinal. However, Alcaraz snagged the victory at Wimbledon in what proved to be a fantastic match. Alcaraz, like thousands of athletes worldwide, has Nike as his sponsor. For his victory, the American apparel brand released a post which showed that they had moved on from Roger Federer and Serena Williams and were ready for their new champion.

Both Federer and Williams are in the long list of stars with Nike as their sponsors. Although they have a long line-up of tennis stars, the legends of the WTA and the ATP had immense deals with Nike.

As the celebrations from the world pour in, Carlos is enjoying every moment. The Spaniard did not only win Wimbledon, but he also won the grass slam playing against Novak Djokovic in the final. A big deal for anyone. Enjoying all the praise, Alcaraz also found compliments from his sponsor’s social media. While sponsors would obviously laud their players, Nike wrote a rather special message for the Spaniard.

In their tweet, they wrote “The Alcaraz Era is upon us. An age in which age doesn’t matter and impossible shots are served with a smile 😏. Congrats Carlos Alcaraz, youngest world no.1, on major no.2. Your time has only just begun.”

The American apparel brand has made it clear that its next big superstar will be the current Wimbledon champ. Previously harboring Serena Williams and Roger Federer in their roster, Nike is ready to let that be a part of history with their tribute to Alcaraz. Along with this tribute, the company has also signed on Carlos for $1.12 million per year till 2025.

Nike sponsoring legends

Puma was Serena Williams’ main sponsor until her early twenties. However, the younger Williams sister joined Nike in 2004 and signed on an 18-year deal with the brand until her retirement. Along with her, Roger Federer was also signed on by Nike, but at a much younger age. Their deal would span for an astounding 24 years.
