Danielle Collins is nowhere in a resting spirit until “she can become number 1“. At least, her fans and the majority of the tennis fraternity would rightly agree to it. While her retirement news brought her to the limelight, she unleashed her “Danimal” leaving her delighted fans say “Danielle Collins biffing winners everywhere is fine.”

After bagging both the Miami Open and the Charleston Open trophy, Danielle Collins strikes back again in Rome.  Miami Open marks Collins’s debut WTA 1000 title and both of her recent titles helped to raise her rank to 15 from 63 from mid-February to April. In outstanding form, this American WTA star defeated Irina Camelia Begu by 6-0 and 6-3 to reach the Italian Open’s quarterfinals recently.

This victory brought Collins to number 12 with a great prospect of entering the top 10 before she retires. “I’m so glad that I have been able to figure out some of the physical things I have needed to do to peak at the right time and to feel like I’m ready to go,” said this American tennis star. Going forward, Collins will face Victoria Azarenka in the quarterfinals.

However, the media again questioned her about retirement. “I feel like all of these questions are coming from such a good place because I feel like a lot of people would like to continue seeing me play well,” said Collins. However, she also brought the reference to her health challenges- “Like I said, I have some health challenges, and with those health challenges, it makes things for me away from the court a little more difficult. I hope everyone can respect that. It’s a very emotional and personal thing.”

This American tennis player sticks firm on calling retirement her “personal choice” as she thinks it “should be pretty understandable”  by her fans. Given her physical challenges, her opinion might be true but fans are completely bowled over seeing her recent performances. They can’t help but wish to see Danimal on the court more often.

Delighted fans reveal how Danielle Collins is giving them Federer-Nadal retirement vibe

Danielle Collins’s incredible performance in Rome made her fans go crazy about this tennis star. Shortly after mesmerizing everyone by entering the tour’s fourth round for the first time, Collins outperformed to reach the quarterfinals. This 30-year-old WTA star has also won 18 of 20 last matches she played making her hunger for victory quite obvious for the fraternity.

Despite losing against Sabalenka in the Madrid Open’s round 16, this WTA star has not seen any losses recently. However, her electrifying performance surprised the fraternity, leaving them to think that it was all a plan for reaching the number one rank before retirement.

Collins has defeated Anna Blinkova in round 64 and Caroline Garcia in round 32 before defeating Pegu in round 16. Following the players she defeated recently, it seemed to the fans as if Collins made a pact with her colleagues to let her win. In this pact, only Aryna Sabalenka seemed not to agree since she didn’t let Collins win ever in their five encounters since 2018. Sabalenka defeated Collins in the US Open 2018, Wuhan Open 2019, and then twice in the US Open in 2021 and 2022 before Madrid.

Collins’s victory has surprised her fans so much that they are curious whether expecting a major from her won’t be much to ask. Despite winning Madrid’s title as her debut WTA 1000 tour, Collins is yet to bag a Grand Slam before she retires. Given that she reached the Australian Open 2022’s finals against Ashleigh Barty, expecting a Grand Slam before her retirement doesn’t really seem too much for the fraternity.

Some believed Collins would beat Swiatek this time. This American WTA star lost to Swiatek in the Indian Wells 2024 tour. Not to forget, the world’s number-one tennis star also defeated Collins at the Australian Open tour’s second round this year. After this heartbreaking loss, Collins announced her retirement. Therefore, a fan’s comment suggests that Collins might turn the table if she faces Swiatek before her retirement once.

People commented how boring they found”one sided tennis matches” since they sort of guessed Collins would beat Blinkova, Caroline Garcia, and Pegu. Despite such predicted matches, people enjoyed that Collins swept away prominent WTA stars by unleashing Danimal on the court.

From the social media comments, it was easier for people to understand the madness Collins’s fans feel about her. Delighted fans termed Collins “Mother” in the true sense of an OG of clay courts.

Fans could only say how “incredible” and “captivating” her performance was leaving them nostalgic for Federer and Nadal’s retirement season. Federer broke Ken Rosewall’s record by being the oldest Wimbledon quarterfinalist before his retirement in 2022. If Collins’s captivating victories are bringing fans Federer’s retirement memories, then they can’t be blamed! Collins is totally on fire before she retires.
