Dismay washed over the court when Kato wildly swatted a ball, accidentally striking one of the ball girls on the court. Following this, the umpire gave the duo a warning for their apparent misconduct; however, their opponents, Marie Bouzkova and Sara Sorribes Tormo argued that the severity of the incident warranted a default. After much deliberation, the umpire agreed and disqualified Kato and Sutjiadi from the tournament, abruptly ending their run in the doubles event.

After her disqualification, Miyu Kato endeavored to challenge the ruling. Unfortunately, the efforts of Kato were rendered futile. Her appeal left her without any monetary gain but with a hefty fine.
