Does Jessica Pegula's honest take on the Olympics make her the most relatable athlete today?

One thing we can all agree on is that terming tennis as a highly lucrative sport is apt. The sport’s major tournaments often house the best it has to offer to both players and fans. However, tennis’ latest campaign at the Paris Olympics didn’t make that cut, at least not according to Jessica Pegula. The American pro has voiced her concerns with the lack of facilities readily available at the quadrennial event.

Pegula’s dream run in Paris came to a disappointing end. She lost both chances of decorating her nation with a gold medal after she was knocked out of her singles and doubles appearances at the multi-sport event. As if Pegula’s medal hopes going in vain weren’t enough, her experience touring the grounds of the Olympic Games resulted in a futile attempt too.

Following her elimination from the Paris event, Pegula has tasked herself with preparing ahead of the US Open. To warm up for the Flushing Meadows Slam, the former World No. 3 will make her appearance at the Canadian Open. In a pre-tournament presser, the American expressed her discontent when asked about her opinion on the Olympic tennis experience compared to that of the Slams. The 30-year-old’s honest admission highlighted that her Olympic affair was not up to the mark.

Notably, she politely labeled her Paris episode as a “blue collar” experience wherein she endured the “grind” owing to the event’s scarcity of prime facilities such as “good food” and recreational activities for players. “It feels like a grind. Even though we were at the Roland Garros site, it’s not quite as nice as far as the experience of a Grand Slam level of having good food, lots of trainers, extracurricular things for players. Logistically the food and the transportation isn’t as high of a level. It felt like everyone was at battle when they were playing. It wasn’t fancy, a little bit more blue collar.”

Overall, it is safe to say her experience wasn’t as immersive as one would think. Moreover, Pegula had a nightmare adjusting to the Olympic Village and broke the internet with her immediate response to the situation.

Who would’ve thought staying in the Olympic Village could turn into a bad experience? Well, Jessica Pegula suffered the aftermath of co-residing with her teammates in the athlete dorms at the site, and it wasn’t a pretty picture.

Moments after settling down at the facility, US Team flag-bearer Coco Gauff took to her social media to reveal concerning details about their residing facility. The young talent demonstrated the overcrowding in a video that showcased how two washrooms were furnished for a group of 10 women. This massive overcrowding prompted Pegula and other members of her team to shift to a hotel in Paris, leaving Gauff and four other players behind.
