The past few months have been quite eventful for Aryna Sabalenka. It all started when she won the US Open title, her maiden Grand Slam win in New York. The Belarusian star defeated Jessica Pegula in the summit clash to clinch the top honors. Subsequently, she enjoyed a much-deserved personal time off with her family at an exotic location in Greece. Sabalenka flew to Greece, with her mother, sister, and her boyfriend, Georgios Frangulis. She shared some wonderful glimpses of a Greek riverside. Months after that exotic vacation, Sabalenka revealed that she wishes to visit the country again.

Amid the stringent off-season regimen, Sabalenka took some time off to indulge in a question-and-answer session with her fans on her official Instagram handle. Subsequently, the fans posed many interesting questions to Sabalenka. One among them asked, “If you guys could add one country to the tennis season to host a WTA tournament, which one would it be?”

Sabalenka remembered her exotic Greek vacation and picked the country to host a WTA Tournament. “Would be really cool to have a tournament in Greece as we really loved it there this summer,” Sabalenka wrote. Currently, in the tennis calendar, Greece doesn’t host any WTA tournaments. Only a few ITF tournaments are scheduled to take place in the country despite tennis being a popular sport there.

While on her Greek getaway, Sabalenka also shared glimpses of her adorable time with her family. “The people and place that have my heart,” she wrote in one of the posts, denoting how much she loved the place in the company of her family. However, with the packed calendar, it is unlikely that Greece will get a WTA tournament anytime soon.

Earlier this year, Sabalenka overtook Iga Swiatek as the new WTA Number 1. While the latter had kept the spot for long, it is now with Sabalenka owing to her strong finish this year. However, the new season poses new challenges and the Belarusian star made a candid revelation on keeping her top spot in the WTA rankings.

She said, “You cannot be confident on that. It’s a mental thing. Of course I’d like to stay there as long as possible and I’m working really hard for that, so let’s see how next season is going to be. It would mean a lot. I think the key is just to focus on yourself and on bringing your best each time you play, whether it’s Australia or any other country, you just have to bring your best every time and hope for the best.”

Next month, Sabalenka has to defend the 2000 ranking points that she won this year on account of her Australian Open win. A disappointing performance there would significantly affect her chances to keep her Number 1 spot.
