Emma Raducanu experienced a major breakthrough with an impressive Wimbledon campaign before she clinched her maiden Grand Slam title at Flushing Meadows. However, the British tennis star has struggled to replicate her on-court heroics owing to a number of injury woes that also forced her to the sidelines for a considerable period. Raducanu’s adverse phase on the tour previously prompted her to open up about how she sometimes regrets winning the US Open title. But that may not be the case anymore.
Though she has struggled to cope with the pressure to perform in the past, it now looks like the 21-year-old player is in a good place mentally, according to her recent statements. In an honest conversation, the Brit recently disclosed that she is back on the tour with “a different perspective.”

“Now in the position that I’m in….”Emma Raducanu gets real about her comeback phase
Back in 2023, the former No. 10 player discussed that she was struggling mentally to keep up with the high expectations that were set by her triumph at the US Open. Even though she is resilient and her tolerance is high, Emma Raducanu said that it was ‘not easy.’ She also stated, “And sometimes I think to myself I wish I’d never won the US Open, I wish that didn’t happen.”

In view of her past comments, Raducanu was recently questioned: “In 2021, you were 18 years old, and there are times that you have said that you almost regret winning that Grand Slam. Just explain what you mean by that.” In an interview with CNN, Raducanu said, “Yeah, I think that when I was saying those things, I hadn’t necessarily had the time to take a step back and reflect. Now in the position that I’m in, I wouldn’t trade it for the world.”
The former US Open champion also revealed that she was so caught up in everything that happened after her first major title. She said, “But I think I was so wrapped up and so caught up in everything in the whirlwind that happened after that. And now, having come through injury with a different perspective, I’m really grateful that I did so.”

Now with her new ‘perspective,’ Raducanu is back on the court at the Abu Dhabi Open after a short campaign at the Grand Slam in Melbounre. In her first-round match, the Brit has already breezed past Marie Bouzková in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, and she will now lock horns with the second seed, Ons Jabeur, in the round of 16.
