Former world number 1 Angelique Kerber is currently out of the WTA Tour. The German announced her pregnancy back in August this year. The 34-year-old is expecting her first child and plans to return to the tour as soon as she is fully fit.

The German tennis star last played in the Wimbledon Championships 2022 and made it to the third round before crashing out of the tournament. Kerber recently spoke in detail about her pregnancy and comeback plans.

Angelique Kerber opens up about the difficulties of not playing tennis

Kerber recently spoke in detail about her comeback plans. The 34-year-old loves the game and wants to set an example for new mothers. Here’s what she said:

“When you talk now to them, it’s more intense listening to what they say. We see the moms can come back, also winning big titles. And I hope I can also be one of them, inspiration for new moms and women to come back to doing their business.”

However, the German doesn’t want to rush through the process. She wants to ensure that she is full fit before making a comeback. “I don’t know what time or which tournament because I really want to take the time. And when I come back, I want to come back 100 percent, fit again and feel good. This is the plan,” she added.

Earlier we have seen the legendary tennis star Serena Williams do a similar thing. The 41-year-old made a return to court after the birth of her daughter Olympia and played for three more years before hanging her racket.

Kerber is already missing tennis

It is very hard for an active athlete to sit out of the action for such a long time. At times it is because of injury, this time for Kerber it is pregnancy. While the 34-year-old is excited about her future and the upcoming challenge of motherhood, the tennis player inside her is missing the court.

Continuing further in the same interview, Kerber admitted she misses the sport. Also, the former world number one revealed that to keep herself connected with the sport, she plays light tennis with young children.
