Serena and Venus Williams—two names that have been etched into the history of tennis forever. For decades, these sisters didn’t just play tennis; they redefined it. From their jaw-dropping matches to their trailblazing legacy, the Williams sisters became household names, inspiring countless budding players to dream bigger and aim higher. But their magic wasn’t just about the trophies or the records they shattered—it was about the way they did it. And while Serena has now formally retired, and Venus has been absent from the court for a long time, the bond between these iconic sisters has only grown stronger.

The elder sister, Venus, took to her X on December 17, Tuesday to share an old picture of herself with her sister as the two can be seen shaking hands on the tennis courts. Donning a white attire, the sisters can be seen holding racquets in their hands, as they pose for the camera. Captioning the picture, Venus wrote, “Sister love @serenawilliams 🤍.” But what followed was even more mesmerizing.

As soon as the post gained traction, fans could not help themselves as they started pouring in adorable reactions in large numbers. While some highlighted how fascinating it was for them to witness the iconic sisters on the tennis courts, others shared their contribution to reshaping tennis. And as the sisters turn nostalgic over their journey, fans are in complete awe of their bond.

Fans share heartfelt reactions for Venus and Serena Williams

Taking to X, one user wrote, “Against all odds and adversaries, you both strove and thrived to the eventual champions and role models you have become. Thanks for making tennis a sport I’ll always love and enjoy.” The Williams sisters came into the picture at a time when tennis was majorly looked at as a sport of the white people. However, through their sheer dedication and efforts, they overcame all sorts of challenges that came their way, including skepticism about their playing style.

What’s your perspective on:

Did the Williams sisters redefine tennis, or was their dominance just a fluke as some suggest?

Reflecting on the same in an interview with American Artist Titus Kaphar, Venus Williams claimed that many in the community still doubt her and Serena’s prowess. “Maybe they still think it was a fluke, Serena and I. Otherwise they would be copying every single thing. Lots of things did change, but there are certain concepts that they didn’t understand,” she said. But the records they hold certainly scream the opposite of their skills and talents. More such reactions continued to follow.

Responding to the post, another user wrote, “I miss the beads. ❤️” Remember, Venus and Serena Williams were seen wearing beads often during their matches that set an iconic style in itself. However, the intention behind this was not to be different. Detailing the same through an Instagram post, Venus once revealed, “When @serenawilliams and I wore our iconic beads, we didn’t wear them to be different, we wore them because they were a part of our heritage. Beads are a typical style for African American children. Wearing a beaded style for the premiere was a representation of my roots.” And now, with Serena having hung up her racquets in 2022, and Venus, who played her last match of the year in Miami, being not so active on the courts the fans definitely miss their iconic style. Meanwhile, more users joined the fray.

I miss you ladies on the tennis court,” wrote another user. Watching the Williams sisters play was no less than mesmerizing for the fans. But the excitement reached its peak when they battled against each other. For the unversed, the Williams sisters have faced each other 31 times on the WTA circuit. But the masterclass rivalry has been well dominated by Serena over the years with the star player winning 19 matches as against Venus’ 12. Individually, the elder sister has 7 Grand Slams under her belt while the younger one has 23 Grand Slams in her arsenal. Hence, missing such an iconic pair on the courts is quite justified.

One more user shared similar reactions by sharing a picture of the sisters from their grown-up days and wrote, “All these years and there bond is still so strong 🥹.” Interestingly, this factor has been acknowledged by the sisters themselves time and again. Highlighting similar sentiments in an interaction with Glamour Magazine, Serena acknowledged being co-dependent on her sister. “Some things never change. I don’t even want to not be codependent with her. I love her. I don’t want our lives to ever be separate,” she said.

Yet another user shared a similar reaction and wrote, “The SI unit of Tennis,” signifying how the sisters have become an integral part of the sport. While the sisters have been away from the sport, their legacy has continued to shine as brightly. Even though we may not see them competing together, the memories they have given, have continued to resonate for fans.
