When it comes to family, Coco Gauff can take her time out of her busiest possible schedule. Despite this reigning US Open champion gearing up for her next match against Dayana Yastremska, she didn’t miss out on her mother’s recent update on her family. As Candi Gauff indulges in retrospection, fans finally find out where Coco receives her indomitable spirit!

Coco Gauff expressed her love for her family as she dropped an emotional comment on her mother Candy Gauff’s recent Instagram post. This reigning US Open champion’s mother took to her official Instagram profile to share two heartwarming incidents with her fans, one is the birth of her youngest so when she was 42 and the second is her mother’s stage 4 lung cancer at the same time, which devastated her.

Ok. Last post. But this brings tears!!!!! I found out at 42 years old that I was pregnant. My mom was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. I was not in a good place because 1. I was 42 and 2. My mom was just diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer….. I am super blessed because if you know CamBam and if you know my mom, you know that they bring joy, laughter, and just a good spirit. And in the background is my Dad, just being a regular person doing the right thing by his family. I love you guys!!!”- Coco Gauff’s mother wrote with a photo of her youngest, Cameron Gauff standing in the middle of her parents.

Gauff who is currently busy trying her luck at the Roland Garros Philippe Chatrier Court, dropped an emotional comment to the post, showing her attachment to her family. “❤️❤️❤️ love my family”- wrote the 20-year-old Grand Slam winner.

Gauff’s grandmom is not just a lung cancer survivor but she is much more than that. Yvonne Odom, who is now 73 was also the first African-American student to get enrolled in an all-white school in 1961. A retired school teacher and a mother to three, Yvonne now takes care of her two grandchildren, Codey and Cameron in Florida at times, helping Gauff’s parents to focus on the rising star of tennis’s professional life. She has been an inspiration not just to her family but to the whole locality where she stays.

She always taught me to approach every situation with kindness and understanding, For her to go through what she did during that time is something that I think … what I do — putting out a tweet or saying a speech — is so easy compared to that. So that’s why I have no problem doing the things that I do. She always reminds me that I’m a person first instead of an athlete”- said Coco Gauff.

Family sentiments and love come over any professional commitments to the Gauff family. This reigning US Open champion’s family might be a tad bit nervous about Gauff’s doubles match with Katerina Siniakova in the French Open, but they surely wouldn’t miss the celebration of her youngest brother’s last day at elementary school. Candi Gauff shared an individual Instagram post of Cameron Gauff’s selfie with his grandmother Yvonne Lee Odom, expressing the happiness of Cameron’s new beginning. In Candi Gauff’s post, the next image showed an exclusive wish for her youngest son, as the family set up a  “CONGRATS CAMERON” banner on the ground.

It was really slow [conditions] today, so I felt like my balls weren’t bouncing as much as normal. I think it’s just with the humidity from all the rain … which I think caters to her game a little bit more, I think in that 4-2 game, I should’ve broken, I missed a few balls close, but I was trying to be aggressive and I was just trying to step in, especially on her second serve. I definitely didn’t think it was as strong as my first round. I felt like I could have, especially in the second set, probably won it a little bit sooner, maybe 6-3, 6-2. But with the matches, I mean, there’s always things you can do better, and I try not to overanalyze everything”- she said post-victory.

Nevertheless, Coco Gauff’s heartwarming comment on her mother’s emotional post showed that family comes to her as her priority. Despite her continuous hard work for the sport she loves, Gauff makes sure that her professional dreams never overshadow their amazing family bond.
