It was the Australian Open in 2020. American tennis star, Sofia Kenin, hadn’t been beyond the fourth round of a Grand Slam tournament. However, in that tournament, Kenin had made it to the finals and was up against an experienced Garbine Muguruza in the summit clash. In the biggest match of her career, Kenin triumphed over her Spanish opponent in a hard-fought three-set match, winning it 4–6, 6–2, 6–2. Moreover, it was her maiden Grand Slam title victory and the biggest title of her career.

Subsequently, she carried her form into the French Open, finishing second best to Iga Swiatek that year. Since her raging success early on in 2020, Kenin’s career has gone on a downward trajectory. Recently, she caught up with the boxing legend, Mike Tyson.

The former World Number 4 took to Instagram to share glimpses of her outing with Mike Tyson and his daughter, Milan. She said, “Met the legend himself @miketyson & got a little practice in with @milantyson. Thanks for a fun day guys!”

Tyson’s daughter, Milan, is an avid tennis fan. Earlier this year, she was spotted practicing on-court with French coach Patrick Mouratoglou. Additionally, she has also practiced with stars like Coco Gauff, apart from Kenin.

Earlier this year, Kenin suffered an injury to her right foot and ankle that forced her to miss several tournaments, including the French Open and the Wimbledon Championships. Owing to her lengthy injury layoff, Kenin has slipped to the 419th spot on the WTA rankings chart.

Kenin’s disappointing 2022 season

The 23-year-old began this year on a promising note, reaching the quarterfinals of the Adelaide International 1 tournament. However, she has been on a losing spree since, making first-round exits at the tournaments. She last played at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, losing in the opening round against Beatriz Haddad Maia of Brazil.
